    Assessment for learning in Africa: Insights from classrooms in Tanzania

    This paper reports on teachers’ practice regarding Assessment for Learning (AfL) mathematics in a study where AfL pedagogy was used to improve the quality of teaching. It draws on a multi-country research project entitled ‘Assessment for Learning in Africa’ that aimed to generate knowledge about how to develop and sustain teacher capacity in integration and use of assessment for improving learning in mathematics in challenging educational settings such as those in Tanzania. While AfL has the potential to significantly impact on improving student learning outcomes, there is a policy blind spot in international development on teachers’ assessment in particular in low-income countries. Results showed that teachers’ had developed contextually relevant approaches to assessment for learning. However, certain structural barriers in the classroom environment hindered the potential of AfL in the classroom

    Poliovirus is the pathogenic agent of paralytic poliomyelitis that belongs to the picornaviridae family. Poliomyelitis has an extended history dating over to the Egyptian eighteenth dynasty. It was recognized as distinct disease in the late nineteenth century when the world was ravaged by large number of outbreaks and epidemics in many countries. Paralytic Polio, the rarest but the most severe form of the disease, is characterized by acute flaccid paralysis of any or rarely both of the limbs. Increasing epidemics during the late 19th and 20th centuries lead to the initiation of a worldwide global effort for polio eradication in 1988, super headed by WHO and various other organizations. The launch of Global Polio Eradication Initiative together with the introduction of two polio vaccines resulted in 99% reduction of wild poliovirus cases worldwide while the total number of polio-endemic countries dropped from 24 countries in the year 2000 to only three countries in 2012; Afghanistan, Nigeria and Pakistan. This review will focus on the general biology of poliovirus, some historic and geographic epidemiological aspects of poliomyelitis eradication during the year 2000-2012 and also on the major failing factors associated with the efficiency of the vaccines to eradicate polio in Pakistan

    DESIGN OF ROUNDING-BASED ACCURATE MULTIPLIER ON FPGS

    In this paper we propose a Modified rounding based accurate multiplier (MROBA) which is more accurate than the conventional multiplier (ROBA). The main concept of multiplier depends on rounding of numbers. This multiplier can be applied for both signed and unsigned numbers. Three hardware implementations are proposed in which one implementation for unsigned and two for signed operations. The accuracy of the multiplier is compared with the conventional rounding based accurate multiplier (which are in 2n ) where the modified rounding based accurate multiplier gives an exact output for the given inputs (irrespective of 2n ) and various parameters like area, power delay, error significance, pass rates are been calculated and compared with conventional multiplier where, MROBA gives better results and with the MROBA MAC unit is implemented
